Escaping the Lava or Staying Till the End

Pahoa residents in the Puna District of Hawaii’s Big Island react to the lava flow on their town’s doorstep. Several long time residents shared their hopes, fears, prayers and memories of Pahoa town. Old timers also recounted the former beauty of Kapoho and Kalapana which were previously destroyed by lava flows, while praying that Pahoa town will be spared. With the lava flow slowing for now, hopes may be reviving for some while others are already moving away.
